SEE THE BEHIND-THE-SCENES MANUFACTURING PROCESSThis spectacular lakeside cottage overlooking Lake Huron is the result of a collaborative design by Van Geel Building and Design and London Kitchen Studio. This bright, spacious kitchen has the honour of being chosen as AyA’s 2025 Design Competition winner for its refined light-neutral palette that creates a clean, contemporary yet relaxed aesthetic.
AyA’s thin shaker Windermere door in Crema, paired with Cardiff Crema cabinetry, wraps the space in understated elegance. The decision to forgo upper cabinetry enhances openness and emphasizes the windows as a symmetrical focal point. A slim ledge along the backsplash provides convenient access to everyday essentials while maintaining a streamlined look. A walk-in pantry adds both luxury and practicality, offering generous storage and organization..
After years of whitewashed minimalism and cool-toned grays dominating kitchen aesthetics, mid to deep stain cabinetry is making a confident return, and it’s more than just a nostalgic nod. In 2025, homeowners and designers are embracing the richness and warmth of natural wood tones across all door styles, from sleek contemporary profiles to classic shaker door frames. These deeper stains bring a sense of comfort and tradition, while their versatility allows them to pair effortlessly with modern finishes, creating kitchens that feel both timeless and fresh.
This renewed appreciation reflects a broader shift toward emotionally evocative interiors, spaces that feel grounded, authentic, and personal. Brown and darker cabinetry adds depth and character to kitchen renovations, offering a tactile connection to natural materials and craftsmanship. Whether used in heritage homes or modern builds, these tones evoke a sense of permanence and style that transcends fleeting trends.
